Hi

For all those that had entered the chicks chase or the mens 5K they have had to change the date due to unforeseen circumstances and will refund those that really cannot make but it would be really great if still as many people can go do go. See you there!

Hi Neil

Was the advertised date for this race originally the 21st August? Both Paul and I have entered but for the 21st August.

As I mentioned at the club meeting last night, next Wednesday's Social Run is from the Poacher at Elsworth. It is a nice 10k route so fingers crossed for decent weather. There are two pubs in the village so make sure you go to the right one. I have told the pub that I will give them an idea of numbers so if you are planning to attend could you let me know please? It isn't a problem to just turn up on the night but it would be good to be able to give them a rough idea of how many people to expect.

H,
I am already working on persuading my husband to wear a garland (being from the villages).
Not sure I am brave enough for the grass skirt though!

I’m sorry if offence has been caused and would fully understand if the club’s committee decide it is not appropriate to use their facilities for organising a swim.

I am more than happy to be lead by a committee decision. I am however not sure the latest reaction is proportionate to the impact, and seems to currently be a view of an individual and not the committee. I disagree it would encourage people to swim on their own and I’m sure Martyn will have noted my previous post about being willing to accompany anyone who is nervous.

For my part any participation would always be at my own risk and fully nderstand this. I have no need for any club based insurance for any event as I have personal liability insurance from elsewhere, but I think it was helpful for Vicky to clarify this. It has been clearly stated any participation is at own risk and I would view the term Rowing Club as referring to an approximate location and not an entry point from public land.

I’d welcome the formation of a tri section as there are many of us who participate. Unfortunately I can’t attend the meeting on Thursday, but would hope any development would be embraced by Riverside Runners in the same way the triathlon community is welcoming and the club has always been.

I don't mean to cause trouble but

As a parent and the Coordinator for the Junior section of the club I am not happy that river swimming is being promoted on our forum pages. It may entice someone who is not a suitably strong swimmer to try it out at other times.

In addition I am not sure that the Rowing Club would be happy about us swimming from there.

So please if you must follow this route then chose another venue and do not promote on the forum.

The session organised at Paxton Pits was acceptable because it was within a closed environment and with a qualified Lifeguard.

Don't forget this month's Meeting at the Rowing Club at 8:00pm.
Hear all last months results and race reports, forthcoming events (Round Norfolk Relay, Frostbites, Cross Country) social events (Social Runs, Riverside Olympics) Awards, Raffle (Mark is on holiday so it could be a short meeting:-))and of course the Tri section proposal.

See you there,
Kenny

Now, now, nobody wants to cause trouble but the simple facts are that for the club’s insurance to be valid any event must be organised and overseen by a qualified / authorised person. I’m sure Vicky isn’t saying not to enjoy yourself, just that the clubs insurance doesn’t cover you. Now I’m off to play golf (without being covered by the clubs insurance).

Sorry to cause 'trouble' Vicky, bit of cross training will no doubt be good for the runners, not to mention those Riverside runners who enjoy a triathlon. For my part I joined Riverside to cross train to support my swimming stamina. The swim is on for tonight Tuesday 5/8 for a 2030 start from the rowing club. Should be at least 4 of us so enhanced safety in numbers but usual disclaimers "swim at own risk, no safety boats and don't blame me if you enjoy yourself".

Glad you are all enjoying the open water swimming however without wanting to be boring, I want to ensure everyone is aware that this is not a club activity therefore the UK Athletics insurance (both club insurance and athletes insurance) will not cover you.
I realise it this next bit has been said before however.......... as the swimming is not being organised by the club we, the club and committee, cannot accept liability for any accident or injury.
Glad I've got that off my chest!
Vicky
